Write for us
We welcome pitches from writers with a clear idea about live music, performance, programmes or listening. A good proposal gives readers a specific way into a subject rather than promising a broad survey or relying on specialist language.
Ideas we welcome
Propose an evergreen explainer, a comparison of musical approaches, a piece of concert history, a close look at a performance choice, or a listening plan for a particular kind of occasion. We favour subjects a reader can understand and explore without needing access to a particular event or collection.
What to include
Explain the central question, the main point you expect to make, why it will interest a curious concertgoer and how you would keep the piece focused. Mention any relevant experience or material you plan to draw on, and flag claims that would need careful verification. Please do not send a full draft unless we have asked for one.
How to send a pitch
Send proposals through the Contact page and select the editorial question option. Include a working title and a short outline in your message. A proposal is not a promise of publication; we consider fit, clarity and what the idea gives the reader.
Listening is a way of joining in
You do not need specialist knowledge to notice a musical choice. Start with one sound, one change or one question, and let the rest of the concert unfold around it.
